Huntersville

Business Community:

Huntersville is home to national and internationally known companies and some of the Town’s largest employers are: SABIC Innovative Plastics, Rubbermaid, Irwin Industrial Tools, Max Daetwyler Corporation, American Tire Distributors, Inc., Presbyterian Hospital, McGuire Nuclear Station, Siegling America, Americredit, Metrolina Greenhouses and Joe Gibbs Racing to name a few.

The Town has worked with the other North Mecklenburg Towns of Cornelius, Davidson, as well as the Chamber of Commerce to create the Lake Norman Regional Economic Development Corporation to help the region attract more commercial and industrial tax base.  The LNREDC seeks to find and prepare new sites as it works to bring new businesses to the area.  The three towns are unique in their cooperation together and with Mecklenburg County for economic development.  The three towns are joint owners of Commerce Station, an industrial park across from Lake Norman Charter School off Old Statesville Road in Huntersville.  Each of the three towns will share the revenue and expenses of building the park – a first in North Carolina for this type of economic development venture.  The work of the LNREDC has attracted the park’s first tenant in 2005 with Prairie Packaging (now known as Pactiv Corporation), an Illinois-based plastics manufacturing company who located its Southeast manufacturing hub in Huntersville, creating 242 new jobs and investing more than $48 million in the area.  The LNREDC added the park’s second tenant in 2010 in that Swiss-based ABB, the global leader in power and automation technology, will manufacture high-voltage land power cables for use in AC and DC applications.  ABB is investing approximately $90 million in the new manufacturing facility, which will employ more than 100 people.

Area Attractions: Recreation

Huntersville Family Fitness and Aquatics (HFFA) is a world-class facility boasting an Olympic sized 50-meter competition pool and diving well.  It has served as host to a number of World Class events, most recently hosting current and future Olympians at the 2005 Speedo US National and Junior National Diving Championships.  In addition, HFFA offers a well rounded fitness experience with a 25-yard warm water pool, full court gymnasium, fitness center, group exercise studio, and outdoor splash park that children and their parents regularly enjoy during warmer months.

The town also offers a variety of beautiful parks.  The Town of Huntersville Parks and Recreation Department manages 18 parks, gyms and multi-purpose facilities.  Huntersville’s larger parks are home to many amateur sporting events and youth tournaments every year, while several pocket parks offer neighborhoods playground and space for team sport activities.

Huntersville also provides access to Lake Norman and its 520 miles of shoreline.  Huntersville residents can find access to the lake by visiting Blythe Landing Park, just off NC Highway 73 for launching boats and other recreational activities.  There is also local access to Mountain Island Lake.

Huntersville is home to Historic Latta Plantation with its 1200+ acres of historic sites, nature preserve, trails for biking, hiking or horseback riding and access to Mountain Island Lake for canoeing.  Latta is also home to the Carolina Raptor Center, Latta Equestrian Center and Latta Nature Preserve.

Huntersville is also home to Rural Hill Farm, the homestead of Major John & Violet Wilson Davidson, which pays tribute to Scottish heritage and offers a variety of events year-round and attracts visitors throughout the region.  Events include the Loch Norman Highland Games, the Amazing Maize Maze and sheep dog trails among other historical events throughout the year.
